Butter Chicken Recipe:
Butter Chicken is a beloved Indian dish that has gained international popularity for its rich and creamy tomato-based curry. Ingredients:
For Marination:
- 500g boneless chicken, cut like bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup plain yogurt/ hung curd
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
For the Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 inch cinnamon
- 2 cardamoms
- 3 cloves and black peppers
- 1 green chili
- 3 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 5/6 cashews
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves), crushed
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Marinating the Chicken:
- In a bowl, mix yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt to create the marinade.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinate, make sure that each piece is well-coated. Cover it and let it marinate for at least 2 hours. This step increases the flavor and tenderness of the butter chicken.
Cooking the Chicken:
- Take a Pan , heat the butter then add the marinated chicken, fry it until it’s cooked

Making the Paste for Butter Chicken
- Take 2 tomatoes and soaked cashews mix it and make a smooth paste.
- Make the both paste differently for Butter Chicken Recipe it will give us a perfect thickness.
Making the Butter Chicken Masala
- Heat oil and butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Add green chili slice cut , cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves and black pepper let it splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and cooked until golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and saute for another 2 minutes until the raw aroma leaves.
- Take a sieve and strain the tomato puree and take out the rest and cook for 5-7 minutes until the oil starts to separate from the tomato mixture.
- Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder, and salt. Cook the spices for an additional 2-3 minutes to enhance their flavors.
- Then pour cashew paste and stir it till the gravy got thicker then pour 1 small cup of water mix it til you get a fabulous gravy.
- Pour the heavy cream to the gravy and mix well. Let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes, give it some time to thicken.
- Add the fried butter chicken into the gravy and stir it till the chicken got properly cooked.
- Let the butter chicken cook together for another 10 minutes, allowing the chicken to absorb the flavors of the curry.
- Adjust the masala if necessary and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serving:
Butter Chicken is best to serve with Naan, Roti, or steamed basmati rice. The creamy spiced butter chicken curry pairs perfectly with the tender pieces of chicken, creating a delightful and satisfying meal.

- For a smokier flavor in butter chicken recipe, you can finish the dish by giving it a quick smoke using a piece of hot cinnamon. Place the cinnamon in a small bowl, make a well in the center of the curry, and place the hot cinnamon in it. Pour a teaspoon of butter over the cinnamon and cover the dish immediately. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to absorb the smoky flavor.
